In spring, these loons are regularly encountered near the Murmansk coast, in the area of Bolshoi Ainov Island [May 4 and 22–31, 1964, Kokhanov and Skokova, 1967], here adult and immature birds were recorded from May 21 to June 9, 1979. , in 1977 a single loon was recorded on May 16 (Kokhanov, oral communication) .
